According to the judgement of the BGH of 17.10.2018, VIII ZR 94/17, the tenant cannot revoke the already given consent to the rent increase, although it is a distance selling transaction. However, this shall only apply if the landlord has requested the rent increase in accordance with §§ 558 et seq. of the German Civil Code (BGB). Text form explains

At the Federal Council meeting of 14.12.2018, the Tenancy Law Adjustment Act was finally passed. In the future, only 8 percent can be allocated to the tenant each year for the modernisation levy. In addition, the capping limit of 3 euros per square metre must be adhered within 6 years. For apartments with a rental price below 7 euros per square metre, the capping limit is only 2 euros per square metre within 6 years. The modernisation levy applies throughout Germany. When the new regulations will come into force now depends on the announcement in the Federal Law Gazette. If this will happen in December, the regulations already apply from 1st january 2019.

We are pleased to welcome a new employee to our team as of 01.12.2018. Juliane Jeschke is, like most of our employees, a Bachelor of Arts f. Real Estate and graduate of the University of Cooperative Education in Leipzig. She gained several years of experience in a large German property management company and will complement our team as a property manager for domestic and foreign investors. Juliane Jeschkes dog, Mops Henry, will also join our team on a regular basis.

The London Acadamy of Urbanism has voted Leipzig "European City of the Year 2019". Leipzig may now bear this title alongside cities such as Copenhagen, Bilbao and San Sebastian.
